IESSA LIGHTING SCHOOL 2010

Date:   19 - 23rd July, 2010

Venue:  NMISA - Pretoria.


 

INTRODUCTION

The Illumination Engineering Society of South Africa (IESSA) is presenting an IESSA Lighting School to further the knowledge of those who would like to obtain a better understanding and a basic design and measurement capability of Illumination Engineering. 
This IESSA LIGHTING SCHOOL carries 4.5 CPD credits.  The Lighting School has been prepared for Professional Engineers; students; maintenance managers and staff; designers of all lighting installations and people who require a competency in the design and measurement of basic lighting installations.  This school will cover interior as well as exterior lighting, including street lighting, design and after installation illumination measurements.  Although this course is not a prerequisite for the IESSA’s Illumination Engineering Correspondence Course, it would assist students proposing to take the course or are currently doing it.

TOPICS

The course will cover the following:-

  1. Eye and Vision
  2. Colour
  3. Units and terms used in illumination and the art and science
  4. Photometry
  5. Light sources and their control gear
  6. Interior design requirements, calculations and measurements of the lighting
  7. Luminaires – interior and exterior
  8. Emergency lighting regulations and design requirements
  9. Interior lighting of retail stores, hotels, restaurants, commercial and industrial buildings
  10. Use of a light meter and actual site measurements – interior and exterior sites.
  11. Street lighting requirements, calculations, design and measurements of the lighting
  12. Exterior lighting requirements for façade, security, sports, precincts, etc
  13. Lighting economics and tariffs and pay back periods.


Each session will have adequate time for discussion and site visits / inspections will be undertaken in the evenings.  Site visits are planned for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. 
A test is planned for Wednesday morning and a final test and project examination will be held on Friday morning. 
A certificate will be issued to each delegate on satisfactorily completing the IESSA School.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The course will be of value to all people who design and inspect Lighting Systems, in particular:-

  1. Municipal Engineers, Technicians and Managers
  2. Building and Industrial Engineers, Technicians and Managers
  3. Electrical Contractors and Certified Electricians
  4. Lighting Equipment Suppliers and Buyers
  5. Electrical Engineers - Professionals and Students requiring a competency to design and measure the illumination levels of an installation

The course carries 4.5 CPD ECSA credits.

PRESENTERS

Suitable qualified and experienced lecturers will be used from the IESSA Development Committee and its members.

COST

Students, IESSA Members             R 6 500.00 excluding VAT   
Non members  R 7200.00.excluding VAT

The cost is per person and includes the course notes, morning and afternoon teas, lunch and dinner when an evening site visit has been arranged.  Site visits are planned for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Please inform us if you have any special requirements for meals before 10th July, 2010. 
Attendance is limited to 25 persons.
The course will be presented in English.

VENUE

The venue is NMISA - CSIR - Pretoria.  Please use the North entrance and proceed to Building 5.
This venue has plenty of secure parking.

DATE OF COURSE

The course will be presented on 19th to the 23rd.
Registration is at 08:30 on 19th July, 2010  The course will start at 8:30 each day and end after the site visits at about 21:00.  The school is planned to finish before 14:00 on Friday afternoon.

ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT

Delegates are asked to make their own accommodation and transport arrangements.

ENROLMENT FORM

Please submit the enclosed ENROLMENT FORM before 9th July.  After receipt of the ENROLMENT FORM an invoice will be sent and payment will be required by the 13th July.
As attendance is limited to a maximum of 25 delegates, reservations will be on a first come allocation basis. 
Should insufficient people register for the course, it will be cancelled and the fees paid will be refunded.
  All fees are to be paid before the commencement of the course Cancellation of booking will be accepted up till 13th July, before course commences, after which no fees can be refunded.  Substitution of delegates will be accepted.

  • Please bring a scientific calculator with you.
